We will be using the Wayne-Resa's 23 Things website for this educational opportunity. The website contains "23 things" that will take you on a journey through WEB 2.0. Here you will get a chance to explore blogs, wikis, and online commmunities for photo sharing, video sharing, and communicating.

Thanks for putting this course together, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteUp and running. Although I can't help but think about Dr. Suess as I work on Thing 1 and Thing 2.
ReplyDeleteIn #3 it asks us to post a comment to the blog site, do we post it here in this blog or at the blog from where the lessons are?
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Kim (and all)! Wayne-Resa folks did most of the work of course and we get the fun/educational benefits.
ReplyDeleteIn Thing #3, when asked to comment on "this blog", for us it means "WSD 23 Things", not the 23 Things lesson page. So Bloggenstein - you can check that off your "to-do" list."
I like being able to take me time and explore the different aspects of blogging. I have missed taking technology classes and this gets me back in the loop and allows me to expand my thinking. I have a tendency to underestimate the abilities of my second graders and this is causing me to rethink some of those ideas.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI tried to create another blog for my family, and my son said he thought that having to create an account with Google was an extra step you didn't have to take with other blog sites. Do you know if this is true?
Also, some people in my family had trouble posting a comment even though I had my settings checked for members only AND added their email addresses to the list. So I went to the comment settings and I thought I had it set correctly, but it still gave them problems. I just finally rechecked the comment setting to allow comments from anyone. I wondered how that worked if I still had the other permission setting checked for members only. I was trying to keep the blog for family members only. Hmm...I'm not sure if you'll be able to follow this rambling. Are my questions making sense to you?
After reading through the many ways to use a blog in the classroom I think I may have come up with a few ideas...
ReplyDeleteThis is really a cool way to learn all these things... Thanks Kathy for getting us started!
ReplyDeleteI like this way of going too, Kathy... As always, I have to see if the ideas will override my natural born cynacism over how effective the technology can be, given our limitations.
ReplyDeleteFanch - whatever blog you decide to use, you have to register to get a username/password. Blogger happens to be connected to Google so if a user doesn't already have a Google account, one must be created.
ReplyDeleteIf you checked your settings to be sure you allow others to post to your blog, you should be all set. I found (as have others) that occasionally an error will occur when you click the Post Comment button on Blogger. In the "Select Profile" drop-down box, I choose Google Account before clicking Post Comment. If the error occurs, I can ususally just click the Post Comment button again and it works (after logging in to Google if I'm not yet, and entering the code word.)
Help, Kathy! I'm having trouble adding blogs. I get something called "Feedburner" instead of going to my bloglines. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteCourtney John
Feedburner is an RSS management tool owned by Google now. I'm not sure why it is preventing access to your blogs in Blogline. It looks like you posted this message after your Thing 4 blog so if you are still having this problem, tell me if you can see your blogs listed on the left side of your screen in Bloglines. Also, in the window on the right, can you click on the blog title and connect to that blog?
ReplyDeleteI have found some amazing things that I can't wait to use, but I keep getting frustrated when certain sites and videos don’t show up at school. The computer tech at my school showed me how to save videos at home to use at school, but most of my planning is done in my classroom. I wish that we weren’t so limited.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy-
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing I decided to read these comments before I went too much farther because I have apparently been posting to the Wayne site. I'll post here from now on.
Hello all!
ReplyDeleteThis has been a long time coming, but I am glad to get started on this journey. I have looked at many of your blogs and have been inspired to do a good job with this assignment. It is so nice to see so many people being open and honest during an assignment like this. I really am looking forward to this journey...
Hi Kathy!! I just logged into Google Docs and I don't see the document we are supposed to practice with. I have tried many different things and I still don't see it. Suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI sent Senorita a link to this document. If anyone else has trouble, let me know.
ReplyDeleteHey Kathy,
ReplyDeleteMy blog is up and running and I am really starting to appreciate the hundreds of features that Google Blog has to offer. Now I wish I only had a couple more hands so I could learn how to write papers, correct student work and blog at the same time. I already tried copying myself on our new copier but all I did was jam up the copier. Anyhow, this is a lot of information but it is fun exploring.
Hello Kathy,
ReplyDeleteBlog is up and running. Exploring what these sites offer.
Hey there Kathy, my blog is up and I'm on 12 today. I wanted to say that it is a little confusing when we were instructed to open a google account but then later were asked to utilize Bloglines. I might be wrong here- but doesn't Google have it's version of Bloglines built right in? For a newbie it would be less confusing about where to go, where is it at later when I want to find it... I had to go back in my history to figure out just where it was and then bookmark it for later.
ReplyDeleteThe blog thing is very addictive and a time eater. Here it is nearly 2:30 on Monday the snow day and I have barely moved.... All I want is more, more, more...
Hi Kellie,
ReplyDeleteBlogger is Google's blogging site and the URLs of its blogs end with blogspot.com. Bloglines is an aggregator for keeping track of new entries to blogs that you follow (RSS feeds). Bloglines is very helpful for me during this class because instead of checking 25 blogs for new entries, I go to Bloglines, which I have used to subscribe to all of your blogs, and it tells me which blogs have new additions. Google also has a similar aggregator called Google Reader that I like. Hope that helps to clarify.
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI read that in thing 15 there has been a Google Doc placed in 'my account'? Hum, well I did go look and didn't see it. Maybe I need to reread this again to see just where it is. I don't often use spreadsheets so I'm sure I would see it.
Thanks-
UNDER THE WIRE!
